Ten years ago today, Anderson Silva gives one of the most controversial performances of all time against Demian Maia

Main Post: Ten years ago today, Anderson Silva gives one of the most controversial performances of all time against Demian Maia

Top Comment:

Anderson had bigger aspirations than just winning in this fight. You see, back in the Chute Boxe days, jiu jitsu was for the rich kids. The poor kids had to make do with Muay Thai and learn what they could from the jiu jitsu playboys who were riding up to gym on their new bikes, drilling for just 5 minutes, rolling for an hour and then hitting the beach with the babes afterwards.

Anderson always had a chip on his shoulder as guys like Vitor and Maia were getting all of the attention back home even though he was in Japan destroying everyone with his striking. Anderson was winning belts in relative obscurity whilst guys like Vitor were on reality shows licking the feet of Brazil's top supermodels. In Brazil, everyone wanted to be like the jiu jitsu guys.

When this fight happened, Anderson wanted to expose the jiu jitsu playboys for who they really were. He wanted to show that the kids with the shiny toys didn't know shit. People in America thought this fight was boring but in Brazil this was a huge underdog moment and people were extremely divided over this. The upper class BJJ crowd tried to play it down and say that Anderson fought dishonorably at the same time praising Maia's guard, meanwhile the kids in the favelas felt vindicated and inspired that one of them finally stuck it to the playboys.

Ten years ago today, "Pokémon: Black & White" games released in North America! #Unova10

Main Post:

While Diamond & Pearl have been the center of attention here for the last week, we absolutely need to take a moment and celebrate a huge milestone for Black & White which released in North America ten years ago today!

It's wonderful (and a little scary) to see how old these games have become and how more and more people started to appreciate them over the years. I myself have been a huge fan of this Generation since Day 1. I bought the games, played the cards, watched the show, pretty much everything that had to do with Unova! Black & White weren't the games that introduced me to the franchise, but they certainly were the games I cherish the most to this day.

While it doesn't appear Black & White will have a large role in #Pokemon25, I'm hoping we can all take a moment and give it some love on this anniversary. I'm thinking we could give it it's own hashtag, #Unova10, to help set this day apart. Let's start a discussion and share our thoughts and opinions on Generation 5. Here's to another ten amazing years!

Top Comment: They did so many good things with these games. I was a kid when they released so I didn’t really mind the smaller dex, I enjoyed the story, and the post game. Not to mention those sprites! Crazy to think how one of my favorite games in the franchise came out that long ago.

Ten years ago today, the longest BO3 in League's history was played between CLG.EU and WE. Silver Scrapes was born. Lasting more than 10 hours due to technical issues, the S2WC Quarterfinals saw the European side go through.

Main Post:

Here's a great recap of that insane day (or night for us EU folks).

This quarterfinals was one of the most iconic series in the history of competitive League of Legends. It had it all :

  • Legendary lineups facing off, with CLG.EU at its prime (featuring Froggen, Wickd and co), against WE who had been dominant in China, lead by star player Misaya (after whom the TF move was named) and WeiXiao, one of the best ADC in history.
  • Intense 50+ min back to back games, with incredible stallings and comebacks that gave birth to the "cheering for ward kills" meme that stayed as a part of League fan culture years.
  • Highlight moves (the famous Snoopeh Cho'Gath play)
  • Delays and restarts due to technical issues that forced the BO to last for more than 10 hours, only to resume the following day. During all those hours of break a track accidentally stood out and git picked up by fans : Silver Scrapes. It became the embodiment of long drawn out streams, and eventually an anthem to S2WC and competitive League as a whole

I remember that night as if it were yesterday. Waiting until 5am with my friend on Skype, watching my favourite team defend tooth and nails against an Eastern powerhouse. Silver Scrapes in the headset all night long, not caring about the following day in High School. Clearlove getting caught in game 2, the insane intensity of game 3 that ended up crashing right as the final teamfight kicked off... Good times.

Happy 10th birthday, LiteMount! Ten years ago today I released LiteMount, a smart mount addon for (retail) WoW. In celebration, this week I released a major update featuring rule-based mount selection.

Top Comment: July 2011. 10 years ago. I can't believe it. It's not a popular addon (between 5-10,000 users based on downloads). Mount collecting is a niche market. But I've been writing it for a decade and I'm proud of it. For better or worse, it's kept me playing WoW through two expansions where I would have quit. I've been trying to figure out how long I've spent on it, but really can't. It must be at least 1000 hours. I think only 20% of the time has been working on the mounting parts, with 10% dealing with Blizzard's changes, and 70% struggling with WoW UI coding. I've never made any money - I hate ads and will never accept ad money. A big thank you to everyone who's tried LiteMount over the years. And especially to all who have reported bugs, given suggestions, provided translations, and interacted on the forums. You are the reason I have enjoyed doing this for so long. "In this moment definitely the luck is not on our side. It is not about me. Last season was not different but in the end we turned it around. We are so determined it will be the same again. We have to turn it around + we will."

In the end we turned it round by finishing 8th and failing to win nine of the final 13 PL games of last season
